Enchanting a disenchanted world 2012 third edition free download

Enchanting a Disenchanted World connects the everyday world in a sociological and theoretical way, making it an ideal text for a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses including introductory sociology, sociology of consumption , social change, popular culture, sociology of leisure, social theory, and economic sociology. The book will also be of value to anyone interested in exploring a sociological analysis of the world's changing and expanding patterns and places of consumption.

This Third Edition demonstrates how we have created new "cathedrals" of consumption places that enchant us so as to entice us to stay longer and consume more while continuing to take capitalism to a new level.

These places of consumption, whether in our homes, the mall, or cyberspace, are in a constant state of "enchanting the disenchanted," luring us through new spectacles because their rational qualities are both necessary and deadening at the same time.

Beyond this however is cause for some critical thought which I will return to later. Essentially the theme of the piece, now in its third edition, is to examine the attempt to re-enchant modern life through the spectacles of consumer capitalism.

Throughout this latest reproduction however, Ritzer reflects on the state of consumer society in the wake of the global financial crisis GFC.

Before continuing however, I shall provide a brief overview of the book as it stands. His basic claim is that within the post war era, a revolution in consumption occurred where the market place transformed from the provision of goods and services to spectacles, fantasy worlds and extravaganzas. Rather, for Ritzer, throughout the postmodern turn, other places such as malls, athletic stadiums, educational settings and small towns have begun to provide the spectacular.

Implosion, or the blending of consumption spaces into other places, is evident in various once distinct settings. The Globalization of Nothing is back in a revised and completely updated Second Edition. In this reconceptualized volume, author George Ritzer focuses his attention squarely on the processes of globalization and how they relate to McDonaldization.

This revision is shorter, more concise, and spends much less space on the Nothing-Something continuum that he introduced in the First Edition.

There has been an array of literature on the notion of 'postmodernism' in social science literature in recent years. This exciting book focuses on three broad continuities: one, debunking the central theoretical tenets of postmodernism with reference to identity, methodology, governance and modernist theory; two, the book engages with current social issues and events in popular culture: for example, film; professional power, masculinity and terrorism; three, the book also rethinks postmodernism in light of under-researched variables of analysis of time.

The book that made "McDonaldization" part of the lexicon of contemporary sociological theory, read by hundreds of thousands of students, is now in its Ninth Edition! Introduction to Economic Reasoning - 8th Edition.
